Shroom & Gloom Analysis – Deck Building (4)

The Deck Building element of ‘Shroom & Gloom’ is a core component of the gameplay. Fundamentally, there are two different decks that the player can utilize;

  1. Battle deck; these cards are related to the fighting component of the game. These cards will only be available in ‘battle mode’ or when the player is modifying/upgrading their deck. Each card can either be a monster or a utility card.
    • Monster Cards are your primary battle cards, they can attack other monsters. They can focus around;
      • One shot damage – Direct damage to one target
      • Damage over time – Damage dispersed over multiple rounds
      • Damage over multiple targets – Direct damage to multiple targets
    • Utility Cards are supplementary cards that can be used in a battle. These can take the form of:
      • One shot damage (permanent) – Deals direct damage to a target and is discarded permanently.
      • One shot damage (exhausted) – Deals direct damage to a target and is discarded until the end of the battle phase.
      • Upgrade one card – Upgrades one card, discarded until the end of the battle phase
      • Upgrade all cards – Upgrade all cards in hand, discarded until the end of the battle phase.
      • Health boost – Heals the player’s health
      • Action point boost – Adds more action points
    • They can be accompanied by special bonuses such as;
      • Player Health boosting – Increase in max health/current health
      • Player AP boosting – Increase in max action points/current action points
      • Upgrade on use – Cards attack/health/bonus upgrades on use
      • Upgrade on kill – Cards attack/health/bonus upgrades on kill
      • Bonus on death – Card drops another card when it is destroyed
  2. ‘Camp’ cards; these cards are only available for use outside of ‘battle mode’ and can be used to:
    • Interact with the world
      • Create Upgrade Totem
      • Create Card Removal Totem
      • Unlock Doors
      • Find new cards
    • Interact with the player
      • Restore Stats
        • Health
        • Action points
      • Boost Stats
        • Health
        • Action points
      • Add ‘Abilities’; some examples are
        • Health increase on new cards in the deck.
        • Reduction in penalties for certain cards
        • Revive on death.
    • Interact with the deck.
      • Upgrade Cards
      • Remove Cards
      • Add Cards
